XENTRY Pass Thru EU Software Requirements: What You Need to Know

For independent automotive professionals requiring Mercedes-Benz diagnostics, XENTRY Pass Thru EU offers a powerful solution. This software is the open-shell variant of XENTRY Diagnosis, designed for use with standard PCs and Pass Thru devices, providing a wide range of diagnostic capabilities. Understanding the software requirements is crucial to ensure seamless operation and effective vehicle servicing.

XENTRY Pass Thru EU delivers near-complete diagnostic functions, including quick tests, basic diagnostics, control unit flashing and coding, fault memory read/clear, and guided and functional diagnostics. However, it’s important to note certain technical limitations primarily due to the Pass Thru devices themselves.

Key Software and System Requirements for XENTRY Pass Thru EU:

  • Pass Thru Device: Compatibility is essential. XENTRY Pass Thru EU is designed to work with standard Pass Thru devices available on the market. Ensure your device fully complies with the Pass Thru standard for optimal performance. We recommend checking device compatibility on our portal or with the device manufacturer.

  • Vehicle Compatibility:

    • Passenger Cars: Supports all Mercedes-Benz and smart passenger car series certified to Euro 5 or 6 standards. Be aware of DoIP considerations mentioned below.
    • Vans: Compatible with all Mercedes-Benz van series certified to Euro 5 or 6 standards. Again, DoIP notes are important.
    • Electric Vehicles (BEVs): Diagnosis is available for all purely battery-powered electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz. DoIP compatibility should be verified.
  • XENTRY Flash Functionality: Available for all model series certified for Euro 5 and Euro 6, as well as BEVs, ensuring you can keep vehicle software up to date.

  • Diagnosis over IP (DoIP): This Ethernet-based diagnosis is generally supported if your Pass Thru device handles DoIP. If your device lacks DoIP support, flashing of the Headunit and Instrument Cluster may be restricted for current PC and Van model series up to model series 206 and 223.

Important Considerations for DoIP and Adapters:

For model series that exclusively use DoIP communication (starting with model series 206 and 223), specific adapters are required. Mercedes-Benz AG has tested and approved certain adapters for exclusive use with XENTRY Pass Thru for DoIP models. It is critical to only use these tested adapters to ensure proper functionality and avoid potential issues. Mercedes-Benz AG is not responsible for any liabilities arising from the use of non-approved adapters.

Limitations of XENTRY Pass Thru EU:

While powerful, XENTRY Pass Thru EU has certain limitations compared to the full XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4:

  • Functionality Restrictions: Quick tests and functional diagnostics are single-channel, which may result in longer operation times. Basic diagnostics are limited to within XENTRY Diagnosis. Initial start-up procedures (flashing, coding, parameterizing) are supported.
  • Vehicle Model Range: XENTRY Pass Thru EU supports only the model series and types mentioned above (Euro 5/6 and BEVs). For comprehensive diagnostics across all Mercedes-Benz model series and types, the standard XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4 is necessary.
  • Integration: XENTRY Pass Thru EU does not integrate XENTRY Tips, EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue), and WIS/ASRA (Workshop Information System / Work Units and Standard Texts). Symptom processing is based on standardized symptoms.

In summary, XENTRY Pass Thru EU provides a robust diagnostic solution for independent operators working on Euro 5/6 compliant and electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Understanding these software requirements and limitations will help you leverage its capabilities effectively for your automotive repair business. For full diagnostic capabilities across all models, consider XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4.
