Xentry Mega NZ: Your Guide to Setting Up Mercedes-Benz Diagnostic Software

Setting up your Mercedes-Benz diagnostic software, often sourced via platforms like Mega NZ, can seem daunting. This guide breaks down the essential steps to get your Xentry and DAS system running smoothly, preparing you for in-depth vehicle diagnostics and analysis, and ultimately getting ready for Vediamo.

Preparing Your System: Virtualization and StarKey Center

Before diving into network configurations and hardware connections, ensure your system is properly prepared. The first crucial step often involves enabling virtualization in your BIOS settings. This is essential for running virtual machines, which are commonly used to operate diagnostic software like Xentry.

Once virtualization is enabled, the next step is to activate your software using the StarKey Center. This involves entering your provided key to license the software.

To activate your software:

  1. Open StarKey Center.
  2. Click on starkeysenter.
  3. Paste your software key: JY53-LWYN-5STK-DNCV-MTNX-55UZ-LWPX-CNEW-XRWN-LQZA-MG4U-S6P7-W224-9NR7-NH2R-329V-GSZK-V6G4-2SGH-6S64-WR6E-HYWX-Q4MF-L5AA-U7CV-HWGU-5DV3-V2WW-SE5Y-JHYM-J6PQ-VTKX-Z82X-DUWN-A3Z6-W65G-SJPL-UZU7-7E8G-MN2.
  4. Click Save.

Network Configuration for Host and Virtual Machine

Proper network configuration is vital for communication between your computer, the diagnostic interface (like a C4), and the diagnostic software. You’ll need to configure both your host machine’s network settings and the virtual machine’s network settings.

Host Machine Network Configuration

  1. Go to Control PanelNetwork and Sharing CenterNetwork Connections.
  2. Right-click on your Local Area Connection (or Ethernet connection).
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Scroll down and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  5. Choose Use the following IP address.
  6. Enter the following IP address and subnet mask:
    • IP address: 172.29.127.128
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  7. Click OK in both Properties windows to save the settings.

Virtual Machine Network Configuration

  1. Open VMware Workstation.
  2. Go to EditVirtual Network Editor.
  3. Select VMnet0 (or another VMnet if specified in your setup).
  4. In the Bridged to dropdown menu, select your Ethernet connection. This bridges the virtual network to your physical network adapter.
  5. Click Apply and then OK.

Virtual Machine Guest Network Configuration

  1. Run your virtual machine containing Xentry/DAS.
  2. Go to StartControl PanelNetwork Connections.
  3. Right-click on Local Area Connection within the VM.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  6. Choose Use the following IP address.
  7. Enter the same IP address and subnet mask as your host machine:
    • IP address: 172.29.127.128
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  8. Click OK in both Properties windows to save the settings.

Connecting Your C4 and Running Diagnostics with DAS

With the network configured, you can now connect your Mercedes-Benz diagnostic interface, such as a C4 SD Connect, to your computer and vehicle.

  1. Connect the C4 to your computer via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Connect the C4 to your Mercedes-Benz vehicle’s OBD port.
  3. Observe the SDconnect indicator on the bottom right corner of your screen. It should turn blue and display (lock – 01), indicating successful detection and communication between the laptop and the C4 interface.

Once the C4 is connected and recognized:

  1. Run DAS by double-clicking on the MB emblem icon on your virtual machine desktop.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to perform a quick scan of your vehicle.

If the quick scan completes successfully, it confirms that your Xentry/DAS system is functioning correctly and communicating with your vehicle. You are now set up and ready to move on to more advanced diagnostic procedures with Vediamo, leveraging the foundation you’ve built with Xentry and DAS.
