Mercedes’ modern Formula 1 journey began in 2010 with the formation of their works team, setting the stage for a remarkable ascent in Grand Prix racing. The team immediately captured attention with the sensational comeback of Michael Schumacher, but it was on-track achievements that soon dominated headlines. Nico Rosberg secured three podium finishes in their debut season and then clinched a groundbreaking pole position and victory double in China in 2012. The subsequent year saw Lewis Hamilton join Rosberg, forming a formidable partnership that ignited epic title battles. The Silver Arrows then surged to unprecedented dominance, becoming a defining force in the modern F1 era until Red Bull’s recent challenge. Even with the rise of new contenders, and the exciting pairing of proven race winner George Russell and rising star Kimi Antonelli, Team Mercedes remains a team to watch.
2024
Despite securing two victories each for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton with the W15, an inconsistent performance led to a fourth-place overall finish. The season began with the shocking announcement of Hamilton’s departure to Ferrari at the end of the year, marking a significant shift for the team.
2023
For the first time since 2011, Team Mercedes did not win a Grand Prix, as the W14 showed limited improvement over its predecessor. However, consistent development efforts allowed the team to overtake Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ standings in the final race of the season.
2022
Radical changes in regulations reshaped the competitive landscape, and Mercedes’ W13 fell short of expectations, positioning them as the leading team behind Red Bull and Ferrari. Newcomer George Russell achieved their single victory, notably outperforming Lewis Hamilton, who experienced his first winless season in Formula 1.
2021
Team Mercedes faced its toughest challenge yet in the turbo-hybrid era. Lewis Hamilton narrowly missed the drivers’ championship to Max Verstappen of Red Bull, despite winning eight races. The team, however, managed to secure their eighth consecutive constructors’ title, underscoring their continued strength.
2020
Mercedes, and Lewis Hamilton in particular, reached new heights of performance. The reigning champion achieved a record-equalling seventh drivers’ title, winning 11 races and breaking numerous records, even after missing a race due to Covid-19. Valtteri Bottas added two more wins, cementing another dominant double championship for the Silver Arrows.
