Born in late 2013 as a virtual dream car for the Gran Turismo 6 video game, this futuristic vision drew inspiration from Mercedes-Benz’s legendary 300 SL race car, a vehicle renowned for its iconic beauty. From its sensuously curved, low-slung silhouette, complete with iconic gullwing doors, to the aggressive statement of its eight exhaust tailpipes, the Vision Gran Turismo is undeniably a showstopper. It’s a concept so striking, it wouldn’t be out of place as Bruce Wayne’s vehicle in a Justice League movie. The interior is equally remarkable, featuring air vents ingeniously designed to echo the appearance of the external exhaust system – a subtle yet powerful detail that further distinguishes the Vision Gran Turismo from other concept cars.
Despite the initial excitement and public adoration, Mercedes-Benz never intended to bring the Vision Gran Turismo to mass production. However, shortly after its digital debut, whispers emerged about a limited run. A coachbuilder reportedly considered creating a mere five units, utilizing the robust SLS AMG GT as a foundation. These ultra-exclusive models were rumored to boast full carbon fiber bodies and carry a staggering price tag of $1.5 million each. Unfortunately, concrete updates on this ambitious project have remained elusive, leaving the possibility of a real-world Vision GT tantalizingly out of reach.
Underneath its virtual skin, Mercedes-Benz envisioned the Vision Gran Turismo packing a potent AMG biturbo V8 engine. This powerhouse was projected to unleash 585 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and a massive 800 Newton-meters (590 pound-feet) of torque.
