Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art headquarters in Sandy Springs, Atlanta, marking a significant milestone for the luxury automotive brand. The grand opening ceremony of the new Mercedes-Benz USA HQ was attended by Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, and other notable dignitaries, signifying the importance of this strategic move for Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. market.
The new headquarters, a sprawling 200,000 square-foot facility on a 73-acre site, is designed to accommodate over 1,000 employees and embodies Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to innovation and employee empowerment. Dietmar Exler emphasized this sentiment during the ceremony, stating, “All the stars are aligned. Our new Atlanta headquarters marks a highpoint for Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. market. It’s not just about being the leading luxury brand for the past two years, but also about this building, designed to foster a creative, innovative, and empowered workforce, akin to a dynamic start-up.”
A Headquarters Built for Innovation and Collaboration
The design of the Mercedes-Benz USA HQ prioritizes functionality and aesthetics, creating an environment that promotes interaction and creativity. The building’s exterior is constructed entirely of glass, supported by a steel structure, allowing natural light to permeate the workspace and providing a sleek, modern look. This transparency reflects the company’s open and forward-thinking culture.
Inside, the Mercedes-Benz USA HQ boasts a 1:1 ratio of collaborative seating to individual workstations, encouraging employees to connect and brainstorm. The workspace is divided into North and South Work Bars, connected by a central Atrium – the heart of the building – and Bridges on the second and third floors. Beyond workspaces, the headquarters includes a comprehensive conference center, a barista-staffed coffee bar, a high-quality café featuring locally sourced ingredients, a 5,000 square-foot fitness center with trainers, and an on-site childcare facility. A furnished roof deck offers an additional space for outdoor collaboration and relaxation.
Commitment to Sustainability and Community in Atlanta
The Mercedes-Benz USA HQ is not only a testament to innovative design but also to environmental responsibility. The building is targeting LEED Silver Certification, incorporating features like water reduction through drip irrigation and energy-efficient mechanical systems. MBUSA is also partnering with Second Helpings Atlanta Inc. to minimize food waste, donating surplus food to those in need within the Metro Atlanta area.
Furthermore, MBUSA is actively promoting sustainable transportation options for its employees, including flexible work schedules, a dedicated MARTA shuttle, bike racks, and electric vehicle charging stations. Governor Nathan Deal lauded Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to Georgia, remarking, “What a beautiful building this is! It’s hard to top the seal of approval from the world to have Mercedes-Benz choose Georgia as its headquarters. Your community service projects have made you great neighbors, and we appreciate the Southern hospitality.”

Adding to the excitement of the headquarters opening, Axel Harries, Daimler vice president, announced the establishment of Lab1886, Daimler’s global innovation incubator, in Atlanta. This new innovation hub, located within the Mercedes-Benz USA HQ, will join existing Lab1886 locations in Beijing, Berlin, and Stuttgart, fostering a startup-like environment within the corporate structure to drive rapid innovation.
