Elevating Automotive Careers in Oklahoma City: Oklahoma City Community College Partners with Mercedes-Benz

Oklahoma City’s automotive industry is revving up, thanks to an exciting new partnership. Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) has joined forces with Mercedes-Benz USA to significantly enhance its Automotive Technician Internship Program (ATIP). This collaboration will integrate specialized Mercedes-Benz curriculum, providing students with factory-backed certifications highly sought after at Mercedes-benz Of Oklahoma City and other service centers across the state.

Starting in Spring 2024, the updated ATIP program at OCCC will offer aspiring technicians the unique opportunity to gain expertise in servicing luxury vehicles. This focused training ensures graduates are exceptionally well-prepared to begin rewarding careers specifically within the Mercedes-Benz of Oklahoma City network and the wider Mercedes-Benz service ecosystem.

“The inclusion of Mercedes-Benz into our curriculum marks a significant expansion, bringing the total number of manufacturers we partner with to seven, covering an impressive 14 brands,” stated Brad Walker, Department Chair for Automotive Technology at OCCC. He emphasized the program’s crucial role in addressing the growing demand for skilled automotive technicians, particularly those qualified to work on high-end vehicles like Mercedes-Benz.

OCCC’s comprehensive ATIP already boasts partnerships with major automotive names, including General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac), Honda (Honda and Acura), Nissan (Nissan and Infiniti), Toyota (Toyota and Lexus), Hyundai (Hyundai and Genesis), and Subaru. The addition of Mercedes-Benz further solidifies OCCC’s position as a leading training ground for automotive professionals in the region, especially for those aiming for Mercedes-Benz of Oklahoma City.

The program’s flexible structure allows students to enroll at any point during the academic year, with both day and night classes available to accommodate diverse schedules. A core element of the ATIP program is its emphasis on hands-on learning in state-of-the-art labs, combined with mandatory on-the-job training at various automotive businesses, from independent shops to dealerships – including opportunities within the Mercedes-Benz of Oklahoma City service departments.

“Oklahoma City Community College is proactively responding to the industry’s need for a highly skilled workforce in automotive technology,” commented John Claybon, OCCC Dean of Business and Information Technology. “We are proud to offer accessible and affordable programs, delivered by expert instructors using cutting-edge equipment and facilities, ensuring our graduates are ready to excel, including at premier dealerships like Mercedes-Benz of Oklahoma City.”
