How to Install Xentry 2017: A Step-by-Step Guide for Mercedes-Benz Diagnostics

For automotive technicians and Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts, having access to comprehensive diagnostic software is crucial. Xentry 2017 is a powerful tool that enables in-depth diagnostics and troubleshooting for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This guide provides a detailed, step-by-step walkthrough on How To Install Xentry 2017, ensuring you can effectively utilize this software for your diagnostic needs.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Follow these instructions carefully to successfully install and activate your Xentry 2017 software.

Step 1: Disable Secure Boot

Before beginning the installation process, it’s essential to disable Secure Boot from your computer’s BIOS settings. This step is necessary to allow the installation of the key loader. Access your BIOS menu by pressing the designated key during startup (usually Del, F2, F10, or F12, depending on your motherboard manufacturer). Navigate to the Boot or Security section and find the Secure Boot option. Disable it and save the changes before exiting BIOS.

Step 2: Copy XentryAPI.dll

Locate the patch folder provided with your Xentry 2017 software package. Within this folder, find the “old key loader x64” directory. Copy the XentryAPI.dll file.

Navigate to C:WindowsSysWOW64 and paste the copied XentryAPI.dll file into this location.

Note: If you are using a 32-bit system, place the XentryAPI.dll file in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder instead.

Step 3: Run the Key Loader

From the patch folder, double-click on the “old key loader for configassist or startkeycenter 64bit” file (or the 32-bit version if applicable to your system). This action will execute a registry patch. Confirm any prompts by clicking “Yes” and then restart your computer to apply the changes.

Step 4: Activate Xentry via ConfigAssist

After restarting, open ConfigAssist. Proceed through the initial four steps of ConfigAssist until you reach the screen displaying the Hardware ID and App IDs. Copy the Hardware ID number.

Next, open the keygen software included in your patch folder. Paste the copied Hardware ID into the keygen. Verify that the correct App ID is selected (either 252 or 253). Choose your desired expiration date for the license key and generate the activation key.

Copy the generated activation key and return to ConfigAssist. Select the manual activation option and paste the copied activation key. Follow the remaining steps in ConfigAssist to complete the activation process. Do not run Xentry yet. Proceed to the next steps.

Step 5: Modify lic_key_2.dat File

Enable the viewing of hidden folders in Windows through Control Panel settings. Navigate to C:ProgramDataLicDir. Locate the file named lic_key_2.dat. Copy this file and paste it onto your desktop. Rename the copied file on your desktop to lic_key_2.x4711.

Move the renamed file lic_key_2.x4711 back to the C:ProgramDataLicDir directory. Once pasted, right-click on lic_key_2.x4711, select “Properties,” check the “Read-only” box, and click “Apply” and “OK” to save the changes. It’s advisable to keep both lic_key_2.dat and lic_key_2.x4711 files in this directory.

Step 6: Edit PassThruServices and XentryServices Files

Navigate to C:Program Files (x86)Mercedes-Benzxentrybin.

Find the file named PassThruServices. Right-click on it and open it with a text editor such as Notepad. Delete the line below from the file and save your changes. (Note: The specific line to delete is not provided in the original text, you may need to refer to your patch instructions for this line.)

Repeat this process for the file named XentryServices in the same directory. Delete the same line from this file and save the changes.

Right-click on it and select “Properties.” In the Properties window, stop the service by clicking “Stop.” Then, change the “Startup type” to “Disabled.” Click “Apply” and “OK” to save these settings and close the Services window.

Step 9: Update Software via Addon Center

In the bottom right corner of your screen, near the clock, find the Addon Center icon (a blue Mercedes logo). Double-click on it to open the Addon Center. Once opened, click on the circled green arrow or update button to initiate the software update process. Allow the Addon Center to install any available updates for Xentry.

Step 10: Run Xentry as Administrator
