Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) has announced robust sales figures for the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a successful end to the year. The company reported a notable 8% increase in passenger car sales compared to Q4 2023, with a total of 88,259 vehicles sold. This positive momentum contributed to an impressive 9% year-over-year increase in overall passenger car sales for 2024, reaching a total of 324,528 units.
Dimitris Psillakis, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am extremely proud to close out 2024 by celebrating our best-ever retail month in December and reporting strong sales momentum sustained from Q3 throughout the final quarter of 2024.” He further attributed this success to “the resilience and hard work of our teams and the exceptional overall appeal of our brand and highly desirable product range.” Psillakis also highlighted the dominance of their Top-End segment and record-breaking Mercedes-AMG and G-Class sales, acknowledging the crucial support of their dealer partners.
Top-End Mercedes-Benz Sales Lead Growth
One of the most significant drivers of Mercedes-Benz’s sales success in Q4 2024 was the exceptional performance of its Top-End vehicles. This segment, encompassing Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, and the iconic G-Class, witnessed a remarkable 52% surge in sales compared to the same period in 2023.
Mercedes-AMG models, known for their high-performance capabilities, achieved a record quarter with 16,169 units sold, representing a substantial 50% increase year-over-year. The legendary G-Class also reached a new milestone, exceeding 10,000 units in annual sales for the first time ever, with 10,987 vehicles sold in 2024, a 12% increase from the previous year.
Plug-in Hybrid Mercedes Sales Skyrocket
Mercedes-Benz is also making significant strides in the electric vehicle market. Sales of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) experienced an astounding 470% increase in Q4 2024 compared to Q4 2023. This dramatic growth is attributed to the expanded availability of Mercedes-Benz’s range of five long-range plug-in hybrid models, alongside their high-performance hybrid offerings. Notably, sales of both Electric Vehicles (EVs) and PHEVs collectively accounted for 15% of Mercedes-Benz’s total passenger car sales in 2024, signaling a growing consumer interest in electrified luxury vehicles.
Core and Entry Segment Mercedes-Benz Sales Show Positive Trends
The Core segment of Mercedes-Benz vehicles also demonstrated strong growth, with an 18% increase in sales for 2024 compared to the previous year. The introduction of the GLE 450 Coupe in Q4 2024 contributed to a 12% increase in overall GLE sales during the quarter. Furthermore, strong availability of the GLC model led to an impressive 58% year-over-year sales increase. The E-Class also showed significant gains, with a 60% increase in Q4 2024, totaling 6,165 units.
The Entry segment experienced a modest 2% sales increase for the year, driven by improved availability of models like the CLA, GLA, and GLB in Q4 2024.
Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales and Electric Vans
Mercedes-Benz Vans also contributed to the overall sales performance, with 9,819 units sold in Q4 2024. The introduction of the eSprinter, Mercedes-Benz USA’s first fully electric van in North America, played a crucial role, contributing to a total of 828 eSprinter units sold year-to-date. Total van sales for 2024 reached 49,573 units.
